Derivation Languages of Graph Grammars

چکیده

We investigate sequential derivation languages associated with graph grammars, as a loose generalisation of free-labeled Petri nets and Szilard languages. The grammars are used to output strings of rule labels, and the applicability of a special rule determines the acceptance of a preceding derivation. Due to the great power of such grammars, this family of languages is quite large and endowed with many closure properties. All derivation languages are decidable in nondeterministic polynomial time and space O(n logn), by simulation of the graph grammar on a Turing machine.

Deterministic graph grammars

Context-free grammars are one of the most classical and fundamental notions in computer science textbooks, in both theoretical and applied settings. As characterizations of the well-known class of context-free languages, they are a very prominent tool in the field of language theory. Since contextfree grammars are powerful enough to express most programming languages, they also play an importan...

Hyperedge Replacement and Nonprojective Dependency Structures

Synchronous Hyperedge Replacement Graph Grammars (SHRG) can be used to translate between strings and graphs. In this paper, we study the capacity of these grammars to create non-projective dependency graphs. As an example, we use languages that contain cross serial dependencies. Lexicalized hyperedge replacement grammars can derive string languages (as path graphs) that contain an arbitrary num...

Cooperating Distributed Hyperedge Replacement Grammars

The concept of cooperation and distribution as known from the area of grammar systems is introduced to graph grammars; more precisely, to hyperedge replacement (for short, HR) grammars. This can be seen as a modest approach to controlled HR. Two diierent derivation modes are considered, the so called t-mode and the =k-mode. For the t-mode it is shown that the class of hypergraph languages obtai...

Subregularly Tree Controlled Grammars and Languages

Tree controlled grammars are context-free grammars where the associated language only contains those terminal words which have a derivation where the word of any level of the corresponding derivation tree belongs to a given regular language. We present some results on the power of such grammars where we restrict the regular languages to some known subclasses of the family of regular languages.

Deductive Systems and Grammars: Proofs as Grammatical Structures

During the last fifteen years, much of the research of proof theoretical grammars has been focused on their weak generative capacity. This research culminated in Pentus’ theorem, which showed that Lambek grammars generate precisely the context-free languages. However, during the same period of time, research on other grammar formalisms has stressed the importance of “strong generative capacity,...
